Introducing Hoshi Imo
What is Hoshi Imo?
Hoshi imo is a traditional Japanese dried sweet potato snack, known for its chewy texture (similar to dried mango) and naturally sweet and nutty flavour.
The traditional process for making Hoshi imo has been around since the Meiji era, as a way to preserve sweet potatoes for winter. Traditionally sun-dried, it became a vital wartime staple and is now a beloved healthy snack, celebrated for its natural sweetness and nutrition.

Why sweet potato?
After a trip to Japan, I realised I didn’t want another sugary Clif Bar, chalky protein shake, or “healthy” snack with an ingredient list I couldn’t even pronounce. I wanted food that was real and simple.
That’s when I tried Hoshi Imo—Japanese dried sweet potato—for the first time. Simple, naturally sweet, and satisfying, it was everything I’d been looking for. The only problem? You couldn’t find it back home in Australia.
So I decided to change that. Beni’s Sweet Potato Chews bring this wholesome Japanese staple to Aussie shelves—for when you want a snack that’s as real as it gets.
